Romans 9 Part 1 - The Most Hated Chapter in the BIBLE
RE>>I suspect most people probably think John 3:16 means God loves the whole world because it says "For God so loved the world..."<<
READ my posts 1570 1573 1577 1580....
Before I enter into what Romans 9 teaches being penned by Paul through the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT Let me refer first to a place in the Gospels that records Jesus reminding the Jews in His home town of the same principles set forth in Romans 9.
Luke 4:14 ¶ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
These two verses teach that Jesus is going around Israel teaching in the synagogues and being Glorified of ALL...
It says there went out a FAME of HIM Everyone loves Jesus at this point.
LUKE 4 :16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up:and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Here we see Jesus reading the scripture in the synagogue ( church ) in His home town where he was brought up.
You know what it's like when a Hero come to his home town... everyone talks about knowing him or knowing someone who did know him...close...
Let's see if that is the case... next verse
Luke 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
Yep this is Joseph's son .. elsewhere a record of the same event reads:
Matthew 13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
Here it is .. the ole home town boy !! They are astonished at the wisdom and mighty works... His family are they not with US
This is just great the same way Gretzski put Edmonton on the map surely this Jesus will make Nazareth Famous.
Luke 4:22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
<V>So in verse 22 All are baring Jesus witness.. they just love Him..,/B>
Does Jesus just soak up all this patronizing and bask in the Moment ?
Let's see what he says...
Luke 4:23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
Here Jesus says that they will expect Him to treat them better because after all this Nazareth is THY COUNTRY surely He must ???
Jesus continues to say stuff that is likely not consider christian today !
LUKE 4:24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
Now these were recorded event that all the Jews studied in their Synagogue every sabbath but it had never struck them until Jesus plainly pointed it out to them concerning their own attitudes of RIGHTS concerning their HOME TOWN BOY...
God Chose to cleanse only one leper and leave the rest even though they were Jews and the one God did cleanse was not... The healing proves that GOD CAN. The fact that only one is chosen proves that GOD DOES NOT WANT TO heal ALL !
So in verse 22 Everyone loves Jesus... what happens Moment later verse 28.
Luke 4:28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
They went from admiration and identification in verse 22 to MURDER in verse 29... Why ??? Because Jesus taught what I am teaching !
That God chooses whom He will Heal and Save and the rest are left to perish !
