For the sake of being participatory, I'll offer my opinions on two subjects. I'll do my best to be brief and I hope no one is offended if I decide not to participate in further discussion of these two subjects.

THE JUDGE'S FINDING OF FACT:
The reason I've tended to stay away from discussions about whether or not Softie violated the law is because A)I'm not an antitrust lawyer and B) almost every single discussion I've seen spent a lot more time delving into the political aspects instead of the legal aspects.

An enabling gorilla owns as much as 80% to 90% of a market and suggests the possibilty of a monopoly. I believe it's possible to be a gorilla without violating laws. For every CEO that says the outcome and/or duration of this case will negatively affect a company's ability to innovate, there is another CEO that says it will positively affect that ability. To that extent, I'm not concerned about the big-picture outcome of this case because my belief is that it will have minimal if any affect on the success of business in general or my investments.

My guess is that Microsoft officers occasionally unknowingly (if not knowingly) probably violated some laws. As an employee who has been put in the very difficult position of doing my best not to violate some of those laws, I can tell you that it's almost impossible not to do so accidentally at least on a minimal level.

I'm not narrow- or close-minded, but I truly don't think it's possible for anyone to convince me that Softie's operating system would not be fully functional without imbedding a browser in it. I have to wonder if this thing would have ever gone to court if Microsoft had simply agreed to stop imbedding the browser.

STRAIGHT LIFE'S POST AND THE REACTION TO IT:

I believe s/he offered an opinion that s/he hoped would ensure the continued high quality of this thread. My thinking is that the post was offered in a polite fashion.

That isn't to say that I'm not sensitive to the special circumstances which might cause some people to react to it in a way I didn't react.

Sometimes we just have to all get along despite our differences, especially recognizing that we're without the benefit of a person's body language, the look on a person's face or the tone of a person's voice.
