I suspect that the Chinese have a similar strong communal ethos that we know from Japan. Japan has its problems with corruption, but they are circumscribed by a strong sense of national unity and duty. The Chinese seem also to have a very strong sense of nation. It seems to transcend the sort of tribal, you're-not-my-clan mentality that allows many Africans to steal each other blind. Or do yucky stuff with a million machetes. BWDIK
