I think the worst has already happened to MSFT. I don't see the need for nor do I really desire gov't. oversight/ fines/charges. The MSFT aura is tarnished and I can't believe Gates feels good about the lambasting this is giving him and his company. What does he say to his children if the history books paint him as an abuser rather than a good captain of industry? Things are different now then even a year ago and MSFT knows the world is watching. I rather see the free market solve the problems. Desktops and Windows OS is 90% of the market now but with the new "devices" being rolled out to connect to the net and with RHAT, linux, AAPL, AOL/Netscape and free dynamic software.. well eventually, Msft will be trimmed naturally. One good outcome is at least Gates set up a charitable foundation. Summary: I think the gov't just rang Mr. Softy's bell and put him on notice that he can't get away with heavy-handed tactics anymore. Enough court battle. I hope this doesn't go to appeals. Let's take the battles to the market.
