Well, I had an odd sense when I was in Austin that it is actually better to live here than there in terms of values and all this excess wealth. In Austin, if you make say, 10mm, I can almost guarantee the neighbors know it. People just can't shut up about their financial position - when the Dell employees go to UT Austin to interview the new graduates they spend more time boasting about themselves than actually evaluating the candidates. Here, there are also definitely people like that, but to really feel superior to everybody else you'd have to have about 100mm. My group sees themselves as middle class whereas in Austin we would be "rich". I conclude its actually better for the kids here vs. there - strange isn't it.
