"the way I see it,,is that it is impossible to see a legitimate revenue stream here.." I beg to differ.
That would be like me saying Van Halen couldn't have possibly ever made any money on their materials. But, they have. Sure, we all have some copy of some cassette or CD hidden in our homes. And that is certainly one less that the artist sold. But if they sold 10 million copies and 12 million actually wound up in circulation, is it really bankrupting them? Nope.
You are always going to have some Joeshmo that will share material that he paid hard-earned money for. There is little to nothing that can be done about it. The thing is, the only way I can see your rights being violated, is for someone to go thru the trouble to print the document out and give it to a freind. I assume it can be printed. Personally, if I spent my hard-earned money on something, I wouldn't give it out to but a select few people. But there are a few people I would share it with, certainly. And I would expect them to do the same for me. But if I want to own your seminar material, I am gonna buy it if I think the price is fair. I won't dilly dally around and wait till someone else buys it and offers to share it with me. I'll just buy it.
I have something that is gonna really be hot. I mean really hot. I will not go into detail because I want to be the first on the block to do it. But it entails a very large customer base, and an on-going steady stream of revenue for both the publisher and FATB. And this customer base has somewhat of a disposable income. Yes, they will share the works, but I could care less. I'm (or somebody is) still gonna sell a million copies of each and every one of them. (endless supply)
Anthony, you have to ask yourself....who cares? It hasn't stopped Van Halen from recording and making tons of money. Stephen King still sells lots of novels, and you know everybody shares them. I mean, didn't you ever loan a book, CD, or magazine to anyone? How about a newspaper? Yet, they just keep chugging along. |
