NT puts a swap file on the boot partition (C: partition).
I forget exactly what happens to you if it's not there,
but it isn't pleasant.

What you probably did was reduce the partition to smaller than
NT was configured as the maximum C: swap file spice. That's a
guess.

In any case, unless you're really hurting for space, 500 mb
is a pretty good size to keep IMO. It gives you flexibility.
That's a way to use space without using it.

Personally I wouldn't ever put it under a couple of hundred
MB myself (actually, I wouldn't put it under 500).
