John,

Why would INTC think otherwise??? They make a profit
on every processor they sell. Each vendor contributues
a product to the PC, but the design, pioneered by IBM,
has been in the public domain since its inception.
Anyone can build one from scratch. I know you know that,
John.

Why should applications be in the public domain, John???
I can't think of any reason for it. MSFT makes most of
their money selling apps anyway. They can keep them
and give up the OS to the public domain so competition
can be introduced. It would help to open up the PC
business and help to sell more PC's.

The only thing MSFT would lose would be their monopoly
status, which, at this stage of the game, would also
be to their benefit.

cheers,
cherylw
