Outstanding remark that I agree with in regards to OS/Browser market(s). Your example companies (APPL, AOL/NSCP) have failed to provide the "quality competition" that would really make Gates sweat...

...ORCL is another matter. ORCL is not what I would call "inept competition", and if you look at who owns the DB market, you'll see that good solid competition has made MSFT follow, rather than lead in this sector.

Larry@ORCL isn't afraid to take them on! (and so far, is winning!)
