To be sure, you need to wait until Monday morning to check the counts.

If the counts have in fact risen, it would most likely be because sellers are trying to unload their merchandise into the Christmas market.

Come a week before Christmas up until about the New Year, you will see eBay counts drop dramatically from their peak at about two weeks before Christmas. (That is because of the length of the auctions, the turn-around time, etc.)

If eBay is smart, it will provide some kind of special auction format so that sellers can sell closer to Christmas, such as "Instant auctions", First Bid Wins, etc.

Other online auctions have been offering these options for quite some time, but eBay has thus far done nothing to provide this kind of flexibility for the sellers and buyers.
