The issue of the rental car could suggest that Lehmann was anticipating driving with Chalem to TN. What we don't know is whether or not he was expected back at home that evening, or if they understood him to be away on business a couple of days.

Note that the murders took place on the evening of Tuesday, October 26. The trip to Tennessee was planned for the next day. According to Message 11788521, Lehmann's 15th wedding anniversary was supposed to have been on Thursday. Also, if you want to argue that business takes precedent and the business in Tennessee was important, note that there was a suitcase in the open trunk. Normally one packs and loads the car the day they leave, not the night before. Thus, I doubt Lehmann was scheduled to go on that trip.
