I do not know if what you are saying is true or not re:
DELL not being able to ship 8-way servers. In any case,
it does not matter because I'm sure that the "motherboard"
problem can be fixed.

I am sure that there will be many more 8-way server sold than 64/128 processor SMPs. So while you scoff at DELL's entry into the high end enterprise sector, DELL is moving inexorably up the food chain.

By the way I did not say that DELL was eating SUNWs lunch.
SUNW has big servers that DELL does not yet make. However,
DELL is definitely pressuring SUNW with its NT workstations and low and mid range servers.

DELL's "warmed over rehash of JIT" is pressuring CPQ severely but it does look like most of the wounds are self inflicted.

As to poor grounding in the industry, a lot can be said for breaking with the past when your company- CPQ- is only marginably profitable do its historical process.
