Presto - as common as it is they were protected. Someone was looking out for them. As far as the suitcase, people that travel a lot sometimes keep a spare suitcase packed. I would guess, the killer(s) knew the victims or were working for someone who knew them and the murders will never be solved. The gun was probably small calibre and the killer had no problem peppering a few shots at the victim before finishing the job. A 9mm or 357 would blow a limb off, that is why the guns would have been small calibre, probably muffled. Shooting a small 22lr inside without a silencer will cause loss of hearing.
