(PR NEWSWIRE) BEA and NEON Partner to Expand E-Commerce Integration
BEA and NEON Partner to Expand E-Commerce Integration

NEON Technology to Play Key Role in BEA eLink Solution

SAN JOSE, Calif., and DENVER, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- BEA Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: BEAS) The E-Commerce Transactions Company(TM), and New Era of
Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: NEON) today announced an agreement to incorporate NEON
technology into the BEA eLink(TM) e-commerce integration suite. BEA has
licensed NEONRules(TM) and NEONFormatter(TM) software to deliver on BEA's
continuing commitment to provide customers with the best-of-breed solutions
that extend BEA's E-Commerce Transaction Platform(TM). BEA expects its
NEON-based technology to be available in BEA eLink by mid-year 2000.
Integrated with BEA eLink, NEON's e-Business integration technologies --
particularly strong solutions for the financial services, manufacturing,
retail and health care industries-will enable valuable business data to flow
efficiently throughout the extended enterprise. BEA eLink is the first
standardized, out-of-the-box, e-commerce integration suite that enables
businesses to integrate their processes and enterprise applications throughout
back and front office environments internally, from the Web to the mainframe,
and across the Web to rapidly enable business-to-business (B2B) and
business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce initiatives.
"BEA's strategy is to provide best-of-breed solutions to our customers,
and we aggressively partner with industry leaders such as NEON to extend our
end-to-end e-commerce solutions," said Barbara Britton, president of
e-commerce initiatives for BEA. "We want our customers to have the best
options for solving their application integration challenges. BEA eLink
provides a reliable solution in a comprehensive package, including a 'single
management view' that presents, in one console, a clear picture of how all
integrated internal and Web applications are operating."
"NEON's track record in e-enabling businesses and the inherent scalability
and flexibility of NEON's Rules and Formatter products are critical to the
success of e-Business implementations," said Rick Adam, chief executive
officer of NEON. "Moreover, the combined effort of NEON and BEA will provide
customers with a comprehensive solution for achieving their B2B and B2C
integration objectives."

BEA eLink
The BEA eLink suite provides business process and application integration,
as well as enterprise-grade transaction capabilities, security, reliability,
publish/subscribe, message queuing and load-balancing capabilities. BEA eLink
components leverage the strengths of the BEA eLink platform to provide a
consistent management environment for the enterprise.
Also announced today in a related BEA announcement, "BEA Expands eLink
Product Family for EAI and B2B E-Commerce Integration," BEA eLink enables
businesses to bring to the Web their critical data and processes that are
otherwise locked in legacy applications, platforms, and databases. BEA eLink
integration components and adapters enable a broad range of packaged
applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Vantive and Clarify;
communications technologies such as XML and MQseries; and legacy
mainframe-based systems to communicate and cooperate within an enterprise and
across the Web to facilitate B2B e-commerce transactions.
EAI is more important than ever for companies who need to synchronize
their business activities within and across divisions, and with customer- and
supplier-facing Web applications and the systems of other e-businesses (B2B
EAI) in order to meet the growing demand for B2B e-commerce. According to
Individual Investor, B2B e-commerce already generates roughly ten times as
much revenue as business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce -- an online market that
Forrester Research expects to grow to $1.3 trillion by 2003.
As The E-Commerce Transactions Company(TM), BEA is dedicated to helping
businesses get bullet-proof, flawlessly operating e-commerce initiatives to
market faster to meet the exacting demands of the e-generation. To capitalize
on this exploding online market force - which is expected to multiply from
200 million consumers and businesses today to more than 1 billion within a few
years -- the BEA E-Commerce Transaction Platform(TM) provides the foundation
on which to build highly reliable e-commerce systems. In addition to BEA
eLink, the BEA E-Commerce Transaction Platform includes: comprehensive
e-commerce application servers, BEA TUXEDO and BEA WebLogic, for rapidly
building, deploying, and managing e-commerce applications; reusable components
that enable business logic to be snapped together into applications within a
matter of weeks; and a wide range of education, customer support, and
professional services to help small companies and large corporations get
e-commerce initiatives off the ground and up on the Web.

NEON Technology
Under this agreement, BEA is licensing key elements of NEON's e-business
integration software product line: NEONRules and NEONFormatter.
NEONRules uses patented technology to provide enterprise users with a
content-based, real-time transaction routing system. Transactions are routed
based on easily modifiable business rules and the contents of each message.
The NEONFormatter technology delivers a dynamic transformation mechanism
that allows information sharing between applications on heterogeneous systems
across multiple platforms. While many other transformation technologies
require manual mapping effort, NEONFormatter automatically analyzes input data
and reconstructs the data into specific formats required by target systems.
