The phones are still receiving calls, and police say callers are surprised to discover that Chalem or Lehmann aren't the ones answering. Investigators are now reviewing the men's phone records.

That doesn't matter. Even if the phones were destroyed, you could still call the number. You'd be told that the phone wasn't in operation, but if you like you could leave a message. The police probably had the phone company set things up so they could answer.
