Now we see Russia on a political trajectory that is all but impossible to change. Clinton's inept handling of the Kosovo conflict hurt Russia significantly, and his naive economic policies toward Russia coupled with the misaligned expectations between the west and the Russian people, have made the Russians bitter and Yeltsin fairly a titular leader. The handwriting is on the wall. If Yeltsin sticks around, we will see more of the sort of thing we just saw between he and his generals in Chechnya. We deal with a very different Russia than the "friendly" one that was handed to Clinton on a plutonium platter.
