EFI Launches Revolutionary Internet Communication Tool; eBeam System Automatically Makes Information From a Whiteboard Available Over the Internet

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1999--Electronics For Imaging, Inc. (Nasdaq:EFII), the world leader in enabling networked printing solutions, announced today the company is expanding into Internet appliance products.

The first in a new family of products, eBeam(TM), converts any whiteboard into a digital workspace, allowing users to capture meeting-notes and diagrams in real time on their personal computer. Words and images can be viewed, edited, and shared across the world using a web browser.

"Just as Electronics For Imaging revolutionized the way people print documents, we are determined to revolutionize the way they share their ideas over the Internet," said Guy Gecht, President, Electronics For Imaging.

The eBeam system weighs approximately one pound and can easily be carried in a laptop case. Setting up eBeam takes less than three minutes. Any word or image drawn on the whiteboard appears on the desktop in full color. Meeting notes can be exported into a variety of popular formats for easy insertion into documents, spreadsheets, e-mail, and web pages. Meetings can be broadcast over the Internet or corporate intranet in real time with eBeam software. Notes can be printed in full color.

This new patented product can be purchased beginning November 15, 1999, at ebeam.efi.com or by calling 877-go-EBEAM. Estimated street price is approximately $500. Plans call for future sales through a variety of office, electronic, and audio/visual distributors. eBeam will debut at the COMDEX trade show in Las Vegas next week.

"According to a study by 3M, more than 25 percent of all meetings today include participants who are at different locations," said Rafi Holtzman, Director of Product Design, Electronics For Imaging. "eBeam allows users to more easily host off-site meetings. Teleconference participants can view information on the whiteboard through any web browser. In addition, participants can use eBeam software to annotate text or images online thus improving collaboration during the meeting. Those that can't attend have the benefit of easily obtaining all notes and diagrams."
