Joan,

I've been looking for a reference, but can't find it. About a year ago I was reading an analysis comparing the interlace vs. progressive scan formats. One of the key points for sticking with the 1080 line interlace HDTV format was the desire of the marketing people to be able to push a product with 1000 lines, despite the fact that you can get the equivalent resolution with about 800 lines proscan.

I don't have much faith in the mass marketing ability of the PC manufacturers. They may have a lot of cash, but their market penetration is 40% vs. 99% for TV. And that 40% has not been increasing dramatically. In the last ten years how many PCs have you purchased vs. TV sets? Most PC sales are replacements, not purchases into a new household.
