Amy - Re: "If this is not appealed and if the government orders changes on Microsoft's pricing policies, this could negatively impact margins and MSFT. "

This is where the Government/Judge are caught in a bind.

One of the central issues in the case was Microsoft GIVING AWAY Internet Explorer for free - or embedded in their Windows 98 OS.

Will the government want Microsoft to FURTHER LOWER the cost of Internet Explorer - by PAYING CONSUMERS to take it ?

Or, will the government require Microsoft to RAISE THE PRICE of Internet Explorer - which will be DAMAGING TO CONSUMERS ?

Therein lies the FALLACY of the government's case - it is NOT ABOUT Microsoft damaging Consumers - it has ONLY TO DO with Microsoft Damaging their COMPETITORS - ie., Jimmy "The Whiner" Barksdale and the Netscape defective defectors.

In essence, it was a Political Trial - and Barksdale, John Doerr, etc., contributed a helluva lot of money to the Clinton Crowd.
