I believe Gates's family have been long time Republicans - and assume Bill Gates is also.

Ergo, Gates's party is "out of office" - at least as regards the executive branch - which includes Clinton, Reno and the DOIJ (Department of InJustice).

Further, Microsoft nearly killed Novell - a UTAH company - and Orin Hatch, an influential REPUBLICAN from UTAH, went to bat (Surprise !) for Novell ! In so doing, he used whatever influence he had at the DOJ to work against Microsoft.

I think Microsoft is learning the "political thing" a little late.
