Since there have been a number of posts directed to the long term outlook for natural gas, I hope this post is not out of line. Is anybody here familiar with Thomas Gold and his writings on the abiogenic orgins of natural gas and petroleum? I first encountered a reference to him in the Wall Street Journal early this year and subsequently read a review of his book "The Deep Hot Biosphere" in Physics Today. Between Gold and the USGS there seems to be a reasonable case for a new perspective on reserves and origins. The fact that Freeman Dyson considers Gold credible also made me take a closer look. Although I am not quite ready to embrace this view, I find it difficult to reject. If anybody has a perspective on this I would like to hear it.
