Rudedog,

I stand by my claims. The PC is still an open-spec off-the-shelf
product as evidenced by the publication of its assembler and
bus design. This is what binds the O/S to the hardware, Rudedog,
not clustering technology.

The proof is that I can buy an off-the-shelf copy of Windows and
run it on any PC. It's possible for a screwdriver company to
make a minor variant and license a special version of the O/S
for it, but the key is that applications written for the box
DO NOT HAVE TO BE RE-COMPILED to run on it. That pre-requisite
compatiblity issue was the reason why PC's made it in the
marketplace to begin with.

Somehow intellectual property rights disappear if the product runs on hardware made by more than one vendor?

I don't understand your point.

cheers,
cherylw
