Dorfman on Bloomberg

messages.yahoo.com

Paris, Nov. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Alcatel is considering a $24 to $25 per share bid for Newbridge Networks
Corp., Dan Dorfman said
in his column on JagNotes.com, citing talk in Canadian financial circles. The price range would make the
value of an agreement as
much as $4.3 billion, and the talk in Canada suggests Morgan Stanley Dean Witter might be assisting Alcatel
in preparing a potential offer. One Canadian analyst said Newbridge Chief Executive Terence Matthews
might not be receptive to a bid from Alcatel, and while Alcatel and Morgan Stanley declined to comment,
Newbridge was unavailable for comment, Dorfman said.
