Tony I know the ticker you speak of and I noted a price on Dell @ 40 5/8 and I checked on Island and it was @ 40 3/16.The CNBC quote had to have come from another ECN or most likely Instinet,which I know CNBC uses for before the bell and after hours quotes.Instinet is used by large money institutions among others and is the largest after hours trading vehicle so that is what the Street uses along with World Markets and other factors(that only insiders are privy to) as a gauge to set opening prices.Hope this helps.
