Pretty amazing that a former speech writer knows so much about technology and has become such a mover and shaker in the market place.

The one fact that isn't discussed, has more to do with the rules the ITU stipulated early on about the 3G process. That stipulation was the fact they would not be a arbiter of IP rights and had three scenario's covering it. The last being that it wouldn't be considered. A big factor of Ericsson and Qualcomm coming to terms on the issue was the fact that neither standard (CDMA 2000 and W-CDMA) would be passed if their was this issue over IP. IT wasn't in either companies interest to continue the fight. Also, neither stndard will be the single victor. Both are going to exist in this world, much the same as you have CDMAOne and GSM.
