Cheryl, why would you saddle us with a slow, bloated, and inefficient standard? As long as we are going to appropriate somebodies operating system for the common good, why don't we appropriate a better OS. Maybe we could make BeOS the standard. Or perhaps we could pass some sort of federal legislation which forces SUN to develop and distribute Solaris 8.x for free. Then we could mandate free hardware licensing and we could all dump x86 in favor of the lightening fast and attractively priced SUN Solaris clone platforms. SUN, of course would be free to continue to develop applications in free and fair competition with everyone else. If SUN demonstrates enhanced quality and reliability with their hardware products they could continue to command some sort of price premium for the hardware. Certainly if they provide n'est plus ultra service they would have the basis for an excellent marketing campaign to convince buyers to buy the real thing and not the clone.
