There's no threat to Christians in India: Narayanan in Austria

Vienna, November 8

President K R Narayanan today said there was no threat to Christians in India and Pope John Paul II during his recent visit to the country was "satisfied" that they were treated as equal citizens.

"We are a vast country. There may be some lunatics in the fringe who might have made some statements... But we treat Christians as equal citizens," Mr Narayanan said addressing a joint Press conference with his Austrian counterpart Thomas Klestil. Replying to a question by Austrian journalists, Mr Narayanan said the Pope was "very happy about our religious tolerance, about the traditions we have of respecting all religions." .....
