I am not up to speed on what "Valis" did for Dick's career. All I know is that it sucked. He was an excellent science fiction writer before that, he was the best, IMO. And I think he just got old, and fell apart. But I quit being a fan after the World Science Fiction Convention in New Orleans, which I helped put on, like so many people who put on WorldCons, I gafiated.
