Joe, I picked up the buzzword "twenty-forever" that describes High Availability

The Market Analyst Panel discussion defined the impetus of the near SAN market to come as being driven by this demanding need for businesses to deliver continuous availability. LAN-free and Serverless backups, Remote Mirroring, and Storage Outsourcing were presented as several of the "killer apps" that will enable e-business to deliver twenty-forever services.

Morgan Keegan's Steve Denegri believed that many IT departments have underspent their Y2K budgets and sees them as ready to spend into a pent-up demand for fibre channel storage products, both NAS and SANs, in the coming year.

The Aberdeen Group's Storage Analyst David Hill saw the huge demand also, but believes IDC's forecast of a $15B fibre channel market by 2003 is a bit optimistic as he didn't think Standards and Interoperability would enter the market until 2002 at the earliest.

Everybody at FCTC was excited about fibre channel, but they were all sellers (I would be worried if they were not jazzed up). It felt to me that the FCTC was a good prelude to COMDEX.

Now the buyers need to get infected, and maybe COMDEX will inject them with some epiphanies on their storage dilemnas. Sure, COMDEX is a dog-and-pony show for the most part, but it would be interesting to see the Fibre Channel Dog-and-Pony Show. If it's a hit, then maybe N+I will book it for the professional crowd. We could use the exposure.
