Douglas,

Excellent summary. From attending some conferences myself for no really good reason, I can tell you I understand and appreciate your comments. It's as if the casual observers who put 2 and 2 together sometimes find themselves way ahead of a curve that doesn't get taken for a little while. I think I enjoy the observations more than taking the turns though. ;-)

I remember a Gignet conference I went to a few years ago. Back then, SANs were a possibility someday mainly because Seagate had started making FC drives (ie. had decided to implement FC as the next step after SCSI). Well, now the market is realizing that the next paradigm is in storage because companies will HAVE TO organize and manage their suddenly explosive storage needs or they will lose out. This Internet thinger ain't going to slow down. As Andy Grove says, "What can be done will be done."

thanks and would love to hear more,
pigboy
p.s. I keep reading more and more on server farms (ie. from Intel) and ASPs. How much is FC going to be involved with both of these? For some reason, this is a slippery subject with many people well informed.
