I'm not sure it would do much good. The "Intel Architecture" group is, according to some reports, the only part of Intel that makes money, and it would probably have to remain as a single business in the event of a breakup. Maybe the chipset and motherboard divisions could be made a separate company.

Lately though, given what has happened during the past 6 months, Intel seems to be less competitive when it's being distracted by its "dot com" pursuits.

They just need to be kept from trying to affect 3rd party transactions (ie. if you deal with our competitors, we won't deal with you). If Intel would stop trying to affect the relationship between AMD and VIA, for example, and focus on developing better products instead, we'd all be better off.

But how to make them do that? I don't know.
