Brian,
You are comparing apples and oranges.
Comparing AOL with MSFT and especially their business
apporach is like a blind person saying (no offense to
people with eye sight disabilities) the world is flat.

MaffiaSoft's business practice is nothing sort running a gang.
MaffiaSoft enjoyed its dominance not because of technological superiority but because of muscle tactics.
IE is the best example. MaffiaSoft's DLL monopoly is going to be over thanks to vigilant US justice system.
Competition, not monopoly, breeds innovation. For example,
because of competition in the long distance market I am paying less than 20% of what I used to pay to ATT (another monopoly broken by our justice system) 12 years back.
If you have not read FOF by Judge Jackson you should spend some time to learn how slimmy
and crooked Redmond maffia is. In America honesty is counted
but Bill gates interpretation is on par with that of maffia world.
AOL cannot and will not dominate any plate form like MaffiaSoft's Windoz. So AOl can never control other ISP's
and plate forms (Cable access, wireless access) ALL OVER the world. As you know AOL wants to be content provider and there will be lot of content providers.
You know Bill is the visionary who said that 650K of RAM is more than sufficient on a PC.
You know Bill is the man who said that internet is a fad but now claims internet is because of their innovation.
You know Bill is the man who got confused between copying and stealing and innovation.
I think if you pull your MSFT money out and put it on AOL you will not regret.
All the best with your MSFT investment.
-Nat

Let us cheer for AOL here rather than waste our energy on MaffiaSoft.
