Service Systems International Expands Operations
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - November 9, 1999: Service Systems International Ltd. (OTCBB: SVSY) SIGNS A LICENSING AND DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH LEADING AUSTRALIAN UV EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER.
Service Systems International (SSI) recognizes the market need and sales potential in areas not presently serviced. These include small to intermediate scale UV projects for municipal and industrial clients as well as clients requiring treatment solutions beyond disinfection whether small or large volume. SSI continues to actively pursue complementary technologies and/or strategic allies to build on the strengths of its high-efficiency, Ultra Guard(tm) UV Disinfection line. Ultra Guard(tm)'s focus to-date has been in the municipal wastewater sector. The new technologies/companies and associated markets have been targeted with the purpose of providing a global service model with compelling economics in favor of SSI's offering in the treatment of potable water, wastewater, and industrial effluent.
AUSTRALIAN ULTRA-VIOLET PRODUCTS MNFG. PTY. LTD (AVP ) has been manufacturing UV water and air disinfection units since 1987 and is the market leader in the Southern Hemisphere. AVP clients include a number of municipalities and Fortune 500 companies. The equipment line incorporates low-pressure and medium-pressure UV lamps. The medium pressure units have automatic programmable wiper systems that minimize equipment maintenance. One of the distinguishing features of the licensed AVP Technology is that it incorporates lamp chambers with photo-catalytic liners. These liners inhibit lamp fouling and enhance the catalytic effects of UV energy when applied to the removal and destruction of organics and inorganic contaminants. This advanced feature allows economical treatment of large volume streams such as decontamination of a water table or industrial effluent.
The alliance with AVP is synergistic in that it will give SSI an immediate entry into growing potable water and industrial treatment markets in North America & Europe. It enhances SSI's ability to service the Southern Hemisphere and capture market share in wastewater treatment throughout Australia, New Zealand and near Asia. AVP benefits from the agreement by complementing its product line with the addition of Ultra Guard(tm)'s unique, high processing rate, low cost, wastewater disinfection System and network of agents across North America. The use of UV equipment is growing rapidly. Demand is driven by legislation, favorable economics based on advancements in UV technology and health concerns associated with chemicals and chemical by-products. The emerging global trend is towards the application of more stringent standards for the control of bacteria, viruses and chemical by-products in potable and process water and municipal wastewater. A report published by McIlvaine Company suggests that by the end of the year 2000 annual global expenditures will be more than US$500 billion for the treatment of these fluids. Yet, the same report concludes, this is far below the level needed for good health around the world. This agreement positions both AVP and SSI in a manner that significantly strengthens each others ability to reach distant markets at minimal cost while giving maximum value to the client through superior technology coupling.
