They said the same thing about the automobile, so the automobile should not have had competition to keep the prices competitive.
They way I look at it and Im no lawyer, but the government is giving the impression that there is a bit of evidence that MSFT unfairly treated the consumer.
My previous industry, actually went thru something similar but in reverse. The STEAMSHIP industry was EXEMPT from the ANTI-TRUST laws. When I was just hired into the industry, years ago, which I knew nothing about as a conference representative, where the steamship lines were able to gather together and legally rape the customers. We were able to set rates where ever we wanted basicly, even if the vessels did not go out full which is against our belief of supply and demand. After these meetings the, the AMERICAN FLAG carriers who benefit the most would then head to the WHITEHALL CLUB to tally up a tab of several hundred dollars, since they had money to burn since they raped the customers. Without going into too much detail the government realised that this was a scam that was taking advantage of the consumer and the the structure I previous mentioned was dismantled. Although it was the opposite in terms of ANTI-TRUST it was similar in that it abused the customers.
And yes the steamship industrie also gave us exposure to the world and a powerful/wonderful development. Remember the steamship industry brought over million of immigrants. So since the steamship industry was such a wonderful and powerful tool, does that mean that that the customers should continue paying 6000-7000 per container when they can and should only pay 3000. Hey to many, the higher price was a bargain also.
