Although I think the PPI and productivity data will be very supportive of lower bond yields (especially on the long end--a curve flattening trade looks very attractive since I believe the Fed will raise rates next Tuesday), it looks like Dec gold may indeed head higher.

I wonder why a large gold producer doesn't simply set up a web site to sell gold directly to individuals and institutions who can save on storage charges. Just the announcement of their intention to let investors worldwide buy and sell gold with no middleman on the Net should be good enough for a big pop. These guys need to take a lesson from AMZN...just announce a major on-line thrust to cater to strong worldwide demand and the loonies would hop on board. "The cheapest Net play in the world." Think of all the money in LDC's that could easily move assets abroad without having to go to a broker or bank.
