Well, the FED sets the max speeds on highways but you couldn't
really say that they were in the civil & structural engineering
business because of that.

Of course, I'd be a little bit concerned about the pace of future improvements and innovations. Wouldn't you?

Yes I would, no question about it, and who would be making them
and for what purpose etc. I can't say that I've thought through
every detail and what its impact would be, but I can say that if
the gov't's involvement in computing was equivalent to setting
standards for max speed on roadways, I would be comfortable with
it. Beyond that, I would start to get less comfortable.
