I'm P.O.'d about the Star Portal slip. Not because the date is moving out, a 1999 date was obviously unmakeable to begin with to anyone who has ever been involved with software development. What bothers me is that they had to put out a phony date at all. The slippage detracts from credibility even though the original date was looney. M$FT can get away with 36-month FUD campaigns, but SUNW can't. A chance to take the high-road blown.

At the same time, Sun management puts out a press release crowing about the million copies of Star Office that have been downloaded, trying to put the best face on a bad situation. Whoop de doo.

The biggest danger about Star Portal is that it's a critical project to execute well, but it won't bring in a lot of revenue all by itself. Things like that tend to slip <viz. Hot Spot>. I hope they don't make a habit of it.

Just as I was getting in a good mood thanks to the judicious use of the "ignore" button too.
