FRANKFURT STOCK EXCHANGE - MOP; BERLIN STOCK EXCHANGE - ME TSE SYMBOL: ME APRIL 14, 1997 Moneta Porcupine Mines Inc. - Michaud Drill Program - March Update TIMMINS, ONTARIO--Moneta Porcupine Mines Inc. ("Moneta") provides an update on 1997 drill results at the Michaud Properties in which a subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corp. is earning 60 percent -70 percent interests by spending $6.5 million. Highlights of the March drilling include Holes: /T/ MM97-190 with 5.73 g/t over 1.3m MM97-193 with 12.07 g/t over 0.9m MM97-194 with 5.82 g/t over 8.7m MN97-195 with 13.09 g/t over 3.5m MM97-198 with 6.69 g/t over 1.4m /T/ The drilling success rate remains high with 14 of the 18 holes assayed in the 1997 program having values in excess of 3 g/t. Definition drilling in the Central Block of the Southwest Zone to date totals 18 holes for 9386m. The program is aimed at definition of the resource for 600m along trend and primarily to a vertical depth of 400m. Exploration drilling on the West Block totals 7 holes for 3928m and includes March results of 13.09 g/t over 3.5m and 3.01 g/t over 2.7m in Hole MN97-195 and 2.05 g/t over 6.5m, 1.76 g/t over 9.6m and 3.69 g/t over 2.0m in Hole MN97-197. These holes are stepped out 1650m from the Central Block. Exploration drilling on the Eastern block totals 3 holes for 1597m and includes March results of 2.86 g/t over 3.3m, 2.0 g/t over 3.0m and 4.23 g/t over 0.6m in Hole MN97-196. This Hole is stepped out 500m from the Central Block. Assays on 12 holes are incomplete or pending. Drilling is expected to continue in April.
