What is the likelihood of MSFT's SQL Server database being no longer tied to Windows NT?

I think that that's called "Sybase". I expect that SQL Server is very deeply dependant on the Win32 APIs at this point, and would probably virtually impossible to separate. I expect that it would be easier to start over, or to use a Win32 compatibility layer.
