Those suggestions are a rediculous limitation on the freedoms of the basic rights of students. Limiting access to guns is not a violation of any basic right. The Bill of Rights was written at a time still influenced by a fear of federal tyranny. Many people were afraid of cantralized governments like England's and wanted protecttions to ensure basic rights. The right to bear arms is not a right in and of itself, but a garantee of the right of rebellion (see John Locke.) An armed population can resist tyranny well.
Today, that "right" is no longer necessary or applicable. Reasonable people no longer fear the government. After 200 years, it if fairly clear that rebellion is unnecessary to defend basic rights in a democracy. Also, rebellion is no longer a viable option. The nature of warfare has changed. A bunch of angry militia members in Montana cannot stop the U.S. army even if it became necessary to do so. The right to bear arms is outdated and has now become dangerous to the population at large.
