BTW, after those victims, RealMan can turn his full attention to all those AZWs who came out yesterday with shagging reiterates on MSFT. Thank goodness too, because he was about to become a permanent fixture on this thread.

Microsoft hit with new monopoly suit
Small ad firm charges abuse of dominant position
cbs.marketwatch.com

NEW YORK (AP) -- In the FIRST of a potential WAVE of legal actions against Microsoft Corp., a small advertising company sued the software maker for allegedly abusing its monopoly power to overcharge for its Windows 98 program.

The filing by Seastrom Associates Ltd. in state Supreme Court in lower Manhattan late Monday is the FIRST to follow a federal judge's harsh finding against Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs) last Friday, and seeks class-action status to represent many thousands of New York state customers.

Such legal threats, which ultimately could seek BILLIONS (how many zeros is that :P ) of DOLLARS in damages, are likely to increase pressure on Microsoft to reach a settlement with the government, an outcome that could lessen the prospect of costly suits.

"I would expect a FLURRY of such suits," Joseph Angland, an antitrust lawyer at the New York law firm of Dewey Ballantine, said Tuesday. "Historically, judgments in any government cases have normally been followed by a SLEW of private actions, and there's NO reason NOT to expect that here."
