i2's Automotive and Industrial Business Unit Hits Record Pace Through Roll- Outs and New Customers

DALLAS, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ITWO), the leading provider of intelligent eBusiness solutions, today announced that the automotive and industrial business unit continues to achieve record results, including its first product lifecycle management contract at automaker Ford Motor Company.

"We were extremely pleased with the record results of the third quarter, the largest ever for the IBU," said Steven Minisini, Vice President Automotive and Industrial Business Unit, i2 Technologies. "In addition to signing several new customers, existing customers are rolling-out successful initial implementations across business units and applications. As a result, we signed contracts for a wide breadth of applications, from supply chain planning and strategic planning, to product lifecycle management and eBusiness-based order fulfillment. This clearly reaffirms i2's RHYTHM as the leading eBusiness solution in the automotive and industrial equipment industries."

One of the most significant recent roll-outs was Ford's contract to license i2's RHYTHM solution for product lifecycle management. The new system will provide rapid constraint-based planning with enhanced visibility and feedback. i2 also won significant orders from two other large automakers in North America and in Japan. "While we cannot comment on the specifics of these supply chain contracts at this time," said Minisini, "we believe they are both outstanding opportunities. One could ultimately involve as many as 40 or more plants. For the other, breaking into the Japanese market opens up huge opportunities for us."

Other roll-outs include Navistar, who is adding assembly line sequencing at two additional facilities, in Garland, Texas and Conway, Arkansas, bringing to a total of five plants scheduled with RHYTHM. Cooper Tire has added Supply Chain Strategist to its RHYTHM solution. They will model their distribution network, from point of manufacture through distribution centers to dealers, to address logistics strategies such as improving customer service, facility location & sizing and inventory replenishment. Also, as previously announced, i2 signed a contract with Caterpillar's Building Construction Products Division to purchase i2's eBusiness solution software, TradeMatrix.com.

New customers included Eaton Corporation, a $6.6 billion global manufacturer of highly engineered industrial products, where i2 won a significant contract for supply chain planning software for the Cutler-Hammer division. RHYTHM will allow all departments to gain consensus on the demand plan, and then quickly see the supply chain constraints and bottlenecks before they occur.

Another new customer, a supplier of wire harnesses to the automobile industry, will implement a new forecasting and demand planning system for integrated, rapid response supply chain planning from customers through suppliers. The system includes North American planning, including production, supply chain, distribution, and transportation planning, and also integrates with manufacturing in Asia. The system will improve mix forecasting, reduce material costs through inventory planning, and reduce transportation costs such as premium freight.

Recent "go lives" include Malaysian automaker's Proton's plant in Shah Alam, Malaysia, where RHYTHM sequences their automobile assembly line. This is the first RHYTHM automobile assembly plant go-live in Asia. Case Corporation's St. Dizier, France transmission plant also went live, the 10th Case plant to employ i2's RHYTHM software in CASE's global roll-out.
