Art, sounds like Klein wasn't on a "Kiss and Make Up" mission.. As I've said many times, I don't think extreme "fixes", nor endless Gov oversight are in the best interest of the industry, consumers, or the country. But I suspect DoJ is particularly intent on getting a solution that Microsoft can't beat with the next appeal, or lobbying effort. DoJ thought they had an agreement with MSFT not to do things, or not to do them in a certain way, once before.
And DoJ got the end run faster than any defensive back.
So they may be inclined to chain MSFT to the ground and keep a watchdog on the chain.
As for MSFT strategy, I suspect they will move into several much more promising industries, and let the DoJ stew over whatever SW issue remain after the major profits are gone. Whatever else, MSFT has had a shrewd eye for the next big buck..
