--Expansion of Mission Marketplace will Create 5 New Screens,
Luxury Seating, Largest Multiplex in North San Diego County --

San Diego, California, March 7, 1997 -- CinemaStar Luxury Theaters, Inc. (NASDAQ: LUXY) today announced
that it has started construction as part of a major expansion of its Mission Marketplace 8 theater complex in
Oceanside to make it North San Diego County's largest movie theater complex and first Ultraplex multi-screen
entertainment center.

The new Ultraplex 13 at Mission Marketplace is scheduled to open in June with 15,000 additional square feet
to accommodate five new auditoriums, and extra seating to accommodate a total of 1,000 guests. The new
auditoriums will have luxurious high-back, reclining seating, offering guests an unobstructed view of the movie
screen. This 13-screen Ultraplex will feature George Lucas THX digital presentation in all auditoriums and will
be the largest all-THX theater complex in San Diego county.

"Our Mission Marketplace 8 location is the first theater complex we built so some of the theaters do not have all
luxury amenities featured at our newer complexes. With the completion of this project, we will be able to offer
film goers in North San Diego County an even greater CinemaStar Luxury Theater experience enjoyed by
those at our Ultraplex entertainment centers throughout Southern California," said John Ellison, Jr., president
and chief executive officer.

The expansion of Mission Marketplace 8 is part of CinemaStar's overall aggressive theater expansion
program that began last year and will result in the company opening eight new theaters and 157 more screens
in Southern California, Mexico, and Hawaii in the next 18 months.

CinemaStar Luxury Theaters, founded in 1989, currently operates seven first-run movie theaters, with a total of
64 screens in Southern California. CinemaStar theaters feature high quality projection and sound capabilities,
including LucasFilm THX Stereo Surround environment in all auditoriums, along with luxury amenities such as
custom high-back reclining seats and extra wide aisles between seat rows.
