Jay, as an OT to your OT,
...what you and Jim are discussing, concering which bank will handle what other banks transactions, etc., is amazingly similar to the peering relationships between NAPs, backbone providers, NSPs and ISPs.
And the politics of check payment clearinghouse functions will also comes into play, as older models which were based on bags of checks delivered by truck and messenger are now being upgraded and force fit to accommodate... electronic payments?
Moving forward with my ISP food chain scenario above, then, in the banking and electronic payment food chain, how would that read? Would you start off with the Fed? The Fed also has NAPs all around the country. Take it from there. Oops, I forgot that you live in Canada. Then use the equivalent Canadian hierarchy. It's all yours.
Regards, and this time I mean it, g'nite,
