Dear Jack

Thanks for the informative post. It reminds me of the first year on this thread when people went into depth on each and every point.

I think Scott was one of the more creative and risk taking people at Novell. Now that he has left, he is bound to have mixed feelings about the company. He was always very pro Microsoft even while at Novell, but in the following sense: here was the competition beating us (MSFT) and beating us because we (NOVL) couldn't get our thinking out of the box.
The fact that it has taken practically forever to get digitalme going and that Eric Schmitt practically fell asleep while a whole layer of management didn't do the job would be unforgivable were the company not producing revenue elsewhere. Scott certainly was behind many creative Novell moves.

The company simply cannot move into new growth areas with the type of dynamic force shown by MSFT and other companies. It plays catch-up.

On the other hand I feel Schmidt suffered a near death experience with the collapse of the stock recently. It may have woke him up to the severe management problems. HE may do something rather than let it happen to him the way it happened to previous CEOs.

The bottom line is that the company has not proved it can take good ideas and market them and produce revenue.

In such circumstances, when you cannot execute, either you cut to the core of the problem, or, you get bought. In either circumstance NOVL is undervalued.
