You are myopic. That cannot withstand analysis. Gorby was a reaction to Reagan. If Carter had been re-elected and his feckless policies continued, the Soviet Union and Cold War would in all likelihood still be with us - they thrived under Carter, reaching their apogee. Europe was being successfully neutralized and Central America would have gone communist, including even Mexico. There would have been no Gorby - at least not the one who lost the Cold War.

Reagan was, as was his reaction, indespensible for the Cold War to end when it did. But make no mistake, Gorby was a reaction, he was pushed.
