Wednesday November 10, 8:02 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Pervasive.SQL 2000 Software Developer Kit Wins 'JDJ World Class Award' from Java Developer's Journal Award-winning SDK gives Java developers powerful, flexible data management capabilities AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1999-- Pervasive Software Inc. (Nasdaq:PVSW - news) today announced that its new Pervasive.SQL(TM) 2000 Software Developer Kit (SDK) has been awarded the ``JDJ World Class Award' by the Java Developer's Journal (JDJ). The journal bestows the award in recognition of excellence in product development benefiting Java developers.
According to a review in the October '99 issue of Java Developer's Journal, the Java Class Library included in the Pervasive.SQL 2000 SDK offers developers ``a fine degree of control over the data while still allowing end-users to access the underlying data using friendly SQL interfaces.' In short, the Java Class Library gives developers a high-performance alternative for transactional applications.
Tightly coupled with the Pervasive.SQL 2000 database engine, the comprehensive SDK gives developers the tools, components, interfaces and tutorials they need to develop and deploy scalable, robust Java-based Web applications that leverage the Pervasive.SQL 2000 platform. For example, the new Pervasive.SQL 2000 SDK features a JDBC interface that complies with Sun's JDBC 100% Pure Java specification, allowing Java developers to leverage data-aware classes and objects to speed application development.
The new SDK also includes Direct Access Components for Borland Delphi and C++ Builder. These components provide a scalable, robust and high-performance replacement for the native Borland Database Engine (BDE) interface provided in these popular development environments. Developers using Delphi and C++ Builder can now develop new applications that leverage the speed and reliability of Pervasive.SQL 2000 without sacrificing the rapid application development (RAD) features of these environments. Developers can also easily upgrade current applications based on the BDE to migrate to the new Pervasive.SQL 2000 database engine.
``Whether developers are building programs in Java or in many other popular programming languages, they all look for solutions that dramatically cut development time,' said Greg Jones, Pervasive's general manager for Pervasive.SQL 2000. ``The SDK builds on our `applications for everyone, everywhere' philosophy by giving developers the freedom to create multiple solutions for multiple environments while only having to develop and maintain a single application.'
In addition to supporting today's most widely used development environments, including Java, Delphi, C++ and Visual Basic, the new SDK includes:
ODBC Interface--Developers have the support of a 2.5 ODBC Interface for high-performance 32-bit seamless connection to popular ODBC development environments such as Microsoft Visual Basic or Imprise, as well as to third-party tools such as Microsoft Access, Crystal Reports and other ODBC-compliant applications.
Active X Controls--Developers can create powerful client/server database applications with Pervasive.SQL in any language or environment that supports ActiveX technology.
I*Net Data Server--The multi-threaded I*Net Data Server (IDS) connects users to information stored in Pervasive.SQL files over remote connections, such as intranets and extranets, without modifying the application or the database. With IDS, developers can create an application once and then deploy it on multiple platforms and configurations quickly and easily, thus saving time and money.
Developer Resource Center--The suite of training tools in the SDK's Developer Resource Center jump-start productivity by providing reusable code and extensive sample applications in Visual Basic, Delphi, Java, Visual C++ and C++ Builder.
Pervasive.SQL 2000 Workgroup Engine--Developers receive a three-user version of the Pervasive.SQL 2000 Workgroup database engine, with the features, functionality and performance required for the cost-effective development and testing of low-maintenance, high-performance applications. These applications scale from workstations to mission-critical client/server environments, such as Sun Solaris.
