Yes they do. Also, keep in mind that all labor and costs associated with fulfillment (putting products in boxes and the shipping cost along with the electric, bill, etc.) come under marketing expense.

They apparently never heard of GAAP.


Well, to be fair, you should mention that virtually every direct seller (at least in tech) does their books this way. Dell, Compaq, Gateway, Cisco, etc. etc. Amazon did not pioneer this, and I believe that if they didn't count fulfillment as a cost of sales etc. then there would be more cause for concern.
