The answer is Vendors will build the equipment based on Open IP Environment. The first hardware will be available within 6 months.

Because the routing protocols used in Open IP Environment
are included in Windows NT and the upcoming Windows
2000, network security and quality of service can be
extended across the Microsoft operating systems and
networking equipment based on OIE, according to the
vendors. Intel will work with Nortel to produce development
tools that equipment vendors can use to build
programmable networking equipment based on OIE and
Intel's Internet Exchange architecture for network
processors.
